Audition for #goggledance

Wayne Parsons is looking for dancer with strong devising skills wanted for pop-up outdoor performances in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Where: Scarborough, UK

Deadline for applications: 17 July 2020

Audition: 23 July 2020

Wayne Parsons is looking for a dancer with strong technical, performing and improvisation skills for the creation and performance of a fun and accessible new site-specific pop-up piece called #goggledance. #goggledance will be performed outside, with the audience watching from their homes.

Professional training and a strong physical presence are essential. We are interested to hear from dancers with additional dance skills to make the work accessible and exciting for audiences. This could include hip hop, commercial, parkour, bollywood, lindy hop, ballroom, musical theatre or social dance styles. Some of the performance will be participatory, so a willingness to guide audiences through a journey is key.

The solo performance is designed to be performed safely under lockdown/social distancing conditions, and will be devised jointly by the performer and Artistic Director. The performance is co-produced with Stephen Joseph Theatre and will pop up in five locations in Scarborough this summer. Please note all performances take place in North Yorkshire and performers will need to travel to North Yorkshire for the performances. We’ll take the necessary health and safety measures regarding travel.

We are an equal opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce and actively welcome applications and questions from dancers of all backgrounds inclusive of race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, gender, age and religion. Applicants are required to be based in the UK and have UK working rights.

To apply, please send a CV, headshot and link to a recent performance video or showreel to by Friday 17 July. We encourage videos showcasing your devising skills and additional dance skills – self-filmed videos clearly showing your physical and performing skills are welcome.

Audition will take place online via Zoom on 23 July. Audition is by invitation only; successful applicants will be notified of audition details by email. Rehearsals and performances will take place this August.

We are looking for male dancer-actors

We are looking for male dancer-actors

We are looking for male dancer-actors for the creation, premier and tour of our new production—a full-length crime drama titled Out Late.

About Out Late

Out Late follows fiercely-closeted Sebastian as he falls in love with ex-army chef Vinnie, a charming but violent ‘out-and-proud’ gay man. Sebastian tries to hide his new relationship whilst his controlling ex-wife Fifi secretly watches them fall in love, seething. When Vinnie is murdered, what unfolds is a twisted story of jealousy, shame and revenge.

Following the company’s tour of Vestige and Meeting (★★★★ The Guardian), Wayne has reassembled the creative team of writer Ankur Bahl and dramaturg Pooja Ghai to collaborate with him on the script for Out Late. Using Wayne’s unique approach to melding dance and theatre, Out Late promises to be a dark and compelling story told through movement and text.
